About Nine Star Ki
Nine Star Ki (九星気学, Kyūsei Kigaku — "nine star energy study") is the Japanese school of the nine-star system that also underlies Chinese Flying Star feng shui and the Mewa ("birth-mark") numbers of Tibetan astrology. All three traditions share the same engine: the nine numbers of the Lo Shu magic square, each carrying an element of the five-element cycle (Water, Earth, Wood, Metal, Fire), a colour, and a trigram of the I Ching. Where feng shui flies the stars through the sectors of a building, Nine Star Ki flies them through time — and reads the numbers active at your birth as a portrait of your personal energy.
The reading rests on three numbers. The principal star, from the birth year, is your core constitution — the deepest layer of character that matures with age. The character star (also called the month or emotional star), from the solar birth month, is the inner self: how you feel, react, and behave with those closest to you. The energetic star, derived from the first two, is the surface self — the impression strangers form before they know you. Together they are written as a three-number signature, such as 9 · 8 · 3. Note that the Ki year begins at Risshun (≈ 4 February) and the months at the solar terms, so January births take the previous year's star — and the Tibetan tradition counts the same year-numbers from Losar, its new year.
