Frequently asked questions about Hanuman Puja Samagri List

What is on the Hanuman puja list?

The common essentials plus sindoor, chameli oil, red flowers and a marigold garland, boondi or besan laddu, red cloth or a dhwaja, a paan garland, janeu, tulsi leaves and gud-chana.

Why sindoor mixed with chameli oil?

Because the chola offered to Hanuman Ji is made of exactly that. The tradition connects it to his applying sindoor to his whole body out of devotion to Rama, and jasmine oil is what binds it. Tuesday and Saturday are the days it is offered.

Is tulsi offered to Hanuman?

Yes, and it is on this list for that reason - as a devotee of Rama, he receives what belongs to Rama's worship. This is a point where Hanuman puja differs from Ganesha puja, where tulsi is not offered at all.

What is offered as bhog?

Boondi or besan laddu most often, with gud and roasted chana as the simplest offering, and banana. Keep it vegetarian, freshly made and untasted before it is offered.

What should be recited?

The Hanuman Chalisa, or Sunderkand for a longer sitting, followed by the aarti. For a series of Tuesdays kept for a particular difficulty, see the Sankat Mochan Hanuman vrat.
