Muhurat times are shown in your local time (computed for New Delhi). The auspicious window shifts a little with your exact location, so treat the times as a close guide and confirm the exact muhurat with your family priest. Dates follow the standard Indian (sunrise) calendar. These dates are selected by Panchang Shuddhi - matching the auspicious nakshatra, tithi and weekday prescribed for this ceremony - and the window shows when that nakshatra prevails during the day.
Frequently asked questions about Akhand Path
What does this page list?
Auspicious days for an Akhand Path and for a Satyanarayan Puja, with the shubh window, nakshatra and tithi for each. Purnima and Ekadashi are marked where they fall, since those are the days the tradition favours most.
When is the Satyanarayan Puja usually done?
On a Purnima, and after that on Ekadashi or a Sankranti - commonly in the evening, in Pradosh Kaal, with the katha read to the gathering and the sapatha of five chapters completed. Many families also keep it after a vow is fulfilled, on whichever listed day comes next.
How long does an Akhand Path take?
Around forty-eight hours of unbroken reading of the Guru Granth Sahib, with readers relieving one another so the recitation never stops. So the muhurat marks the start; the bhog and ardas fall two days later.
What is offered at a Satyanarayan Puja?
Sapatha - the prasad of wheat flour, sugar and ghee - with banana, panchamrit, tulsi and betel. The Satyanarayan samagri list gives the full set and the katha the reading itself.
How far ahead does this list go?
The page always shows this year and the next one. On 1 January the past year drops off and the new year is filled from the Panchang, so you do not wait for a yearly update.
Can it be held on a day not on the list?
Yes. Both are readings rather than sanskars, and neither is barred on any day. The list simply gathers the days the panchang favours; a vow being kept on a particular date is honoured as it stands.
About the Akhand Path - Satyanarayan
Akhand Path is an unbroken recitation of a sacred text (often the Guru Granth Sahib in Sikh practice, or a Hindu scripture in some families). Satyanarayan Puja is a popular vrat-katha puja to Vishnu as Satyanarayan, often after a wish is fulfilled or on a full-moon day. This page lists auspicious dates for beginning either observance, with the shubh time window, nakshatra and tithi, computed by Panchang Shuddhi from the Lahiri almanac.
The two rites are not the same, and communities keep their own rules - Purnima for Satyanarayan is common; an Akhand Path may run for 48 hours with a start time the granthi sets. This list is a planning aid, not a substitute for the priest, granthi or family elder who will actually lead the recitation. It is not a guarantee that a wish will be fulfilled, and it is not medical or financial advice.
Times are calculated for New Delhi and shown in your local zone. Confirm the start with whoever is officiating, especially if the Path must end before a working day. Dates follow the Indian sunrise calendar. The katha text and vidhi live with your priest; hymn pages on this site (Chalisa, Aarti, Stotram) are for recitation practice, not this calendar.
The list is free. You can share it or download a PDF. For the day's full almanac see the daily Panchang. Other ceremony dates are in the muhurat library.
A muhurat is a chosen window to begin a ceremony, not a full daily panchang. Today's windows for any work are on My Muhurat Today. The day's tithi, sunrise and Rahu Kalam sit on the Panchang. Browse other ceremonies on the Muhurats index.
