Frequently asked questions about Vehicle Purchase Muhurat

Should the muhurat cover the booking or the delivery?

The delivery - the moment the vehicle comes into your hands and is first driven. That is what the tradition times, which is why showrooms are used to handing over keys inside a customer\'s chosen window.

Which days are favoured for a new vehicle?

Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with the Moon in Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha or Revati. Saturday is generally left alone for a first drive, and Rahu Kalam is avoided even on a good day.

What is done before the first drive?

A short puja at the showroom or at home - a swastik and a tilak on the bonnet or handlebar, a coconut, a lemon under the wheel in many regions, and a Ganesh or Hanuman prayer. Then the first drive, often to a temple.

Are there dates through the year?

Yes. Buying a vehicle is a transaction rather than a samskara, so the list runs across all twelve months instead of stopping for Chaturmas.

How far ahead does this list go?

The page always shows this year and the next one. On 1 January the past year drops off and the new year is filled from the Panchang, so you do not wait for a yearly update.

Amavasya and the Rikta tithis - why avoided?

Because the texts treat them as depleted days, poor for anything that is meant to last and serve. The Rikta tithis are the fourth, ninth and fourteenth of each fortnight; they are left out of this list. Those rules belong to this vehicle-purchase muhurat; the day's tithi is on the Panchang, any-work windows on My Muhurat Today, and the other ceremonies on Muhurats.

About the Vehicle Purchase Muhurat

Vehicle purchase muhurat is the traditional window to take delivery of a new car, bike or scooter, or to begin the paperwork the family treats as the start of ownership. The dates favour nakshatras and weekdays associated with movement, metal and a safe journey in the muhurta literature. Each day on this page lists the shubh time window, nakshatra and tithi so you can align a showroom slot with a clean Panchang.

A muhurat is not insurance, a loan, or a safety inspection. It does not make a vehicle roadworthy and it is not legal advice about registration. If the dealer can only deliver on a Tuesday that your priest dislikes, that is a practical choice, not a cosmic failure. Buying land or a house uses a different list: property purchase muhurat.

Times are calculated for New Delhi and shown in your local zone. The window shifts slightly with longitude, so confirm with your family priest if the delivery minute matters. Dates follow the Indian sunrise calendar. Pair a shortlisted day with the daily Panchang if you want to avoid Rahu Kalam inside the window.

The list is free. You can share it or download a PDF. For a ceremony at home after the vehicle arrives, families often do a small Ganesha puja - that vidhi is between you and your priest, not this calendar.

A muhurat is a chosen window to begin a ceremony, not a full daily panchang. Today's windows for any work are on My Muhurat Today. The day's tithi, sunrise and Rahu Kalam sit on the Panchang. Browse other ceremonies on the Muhurats index.
