श्राप-वश ललित एक विकराल, भयानक राक्षस बन गया और वन-वन भटकने लगा। अपने पति की यह दशा देखकर पत्नी ललिता शोक और चिंता से व्याकुल हो उठी, पर उसने धैर्य न खोया। पति के उद्धार के लिए वह वन में शृंगी ऋषि के आश्रम पहुँची और उपाय पूछा।

शृंगी ऋषि ने कहा - "पुत्री, चैत्र मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की कामदा एकादशी का व्रत करो। यह सब मनोकामनाएँ पूरी करने वाली एकादशी है। इसका सम्पूर्ण पुण्य अपने पति को अर्पण कर दो।" ललिता ने श्रद्धापूर्वक उपवास, जागरण और विष्णु-पूजा करके व्रत का पुण्य पति को अर्पित किया। व्रत के प्रभाव से ललित का राक्षस-रूप तुरंत नष्ट हो गया और वह फिर से अपने दिव्य, सुंदर गंधर्व रूप में लौट आया। दोनों फिर से सुखपूर्वक रहने लगे।
