A list of every solar (Surya Grahan) and lunar (Chandra Grahan) eclipse of the year — each with its type, whether it is visible in India, the grahan start and end times (shown in your local time) and the Sutak Kaal where it is observed. A penumbral (upachhaya) lunar eclipse is generally not kept as a grahan.

Total Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) Visible in India
Grahan 3:20 PM – 6:47 PM
A total lunar eclipse (Khagras / Blood Moon) on Phalguna Purnima, the night of Holika Dahan. Seen across Asia; in India it is visible at moonrise — the total phase in the north-east, the partial phase in most cities. Sutak Kaal begins around 6:20 AM and ends with the eclipse at 6:47 PM.

Grahan 9:04 PM – 1:30 AM, Aug 13
A total solar eclipse visible from Greenland, Iceland, the Arctic, the north Atlantic and northern Spain, with a partial phase across much of Europe. Not visible in India, so no Sutak Kaal is observed.

Grahan 8:03 AM – 11:22 AM

Grahan 7:07 PM – 11:53 PM

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) Penumbral — no Sutak

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) Penumbral — no Sutak
An extremely faint penumbral (upachhaya) lunar eclipse — the Moon barely grazes Earth’s outer shadow. It is not kept as a grahan, so no Sutak Kaal applies.

Total Solar Eclipse (Surya Grahan) Partial in India
Grahan 1:00 PM – 6:14 PM
The “Great North African Eclipse” — totality (up to 6 min 23 s, the longest of this century) crosses Spain, north Africa, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. In India a partial eclipse is visible from about 4:30 PM until sunset across western and southern India. Sutak Kaal (12 hours before the peak) applies where the eclipse is visible.
-
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) Not visible in India
A penumbral (upachhaya) lunar eclipse occurring during the day in India with the Moon below the horizon. Not visible in India and, being penumbral, not kept as a grahan — no Sutak Kaal.
Grahan start and end times are shown in your local time. Sutak Kaal applies only where the eclipse is visible; a penumbral (upachhaya) lunar eclipse is generally not kept as a grahan. Times are computed for India and may differ slightly from regional almanacs.
