What is on this page?
The dhyana shloka for Rahu - half-bodied, of great strength, crusher of the Sun and Moon, born of Simhika's womb - with the beej mantra and the Rahu Gayatri.
Why is he described as half-bodied?
Because Rahu is the head severed at the churning of the ocean, with the trunk becoming Ketu. He has no body of his own, which is why both nodes are called chhaya grahas, shadow planets.
When is it recited?
Saturdays, and during a Rahu mahadasha or antardasha. Dusk before a blue flower and a mustard-oil lamp is the usual practice.
What does Rahu do in a chart?
He magnifies whatever he touches without supplying discrimination - craving, obsession, foreign things, sudden rise and sudden fall. With Ketu he forms the axis behind Kaal Sarp dosha.
What is given in daan for Rahu?
Urad dal, black til, mustard oil, a coconut and blue or grey cloth, with feeding the destitute and Durga worship as the acts named alongside.
