What is Simantonayana?

The baby-shower sanskar - Godh Bharai in the north, Seemantham in the south, Shrimant in Maharashtra. The expectant mother\'s lap is filled with fruit, sweets and gifts and blessings are given for a safe delivery.

In which month of pregnancy is it done?

Classically in the sixth, seventh or eighth month, with the seventh the most common in practice. Some families keep it in the fifth for a first child. Choose a listed date that falls in that stretch.

Why does this list allow days the other sanskar pages do not?

The 2026 dates follow a published almanac, which is why Sunday and Tuesday appear that year and both fortnights are used. From 2027 the list is filled by Panchang Shuddhi on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the bright fortnight, and Chaturmas is left blank like Mundan and Upanayana.

Who performs it?

Traditionally the women of the family, led by the mother-in-law or an elder, with bangles, a garland and the lap-filling; a pandit is called only where the family keeps the full Vedic Simantonayana with a havan.

How far ahead does this list go?

The page always shows this year and the next one. On 1 January the past year drops off and the new year is filled from the Panchang, so you do not wait for a yearly update.

Does the mother's chart need checking?

Not for this. The general muhurat is what the tradition uses; a chart reading here is usually about the delivery and the child rather than the ceremony. See the child birth timing reading if that is the question.

Godh Bharai (Simantonayana, Seemantham) is the baby-shower sanskar, traditionally held in the later months of pregnancy to bless the mother and the child. A muhurat is chosen when the Moon and tithi are gentle and the weekday is allowed for this rite. This page lists those dates with the shubh time window, nakshatra and tithi so the family can pick a day that also works for travel and rest.

Pregnancy comes first. This calendar is not medical advice. If a doctor has limited travel, crowding or fasting, follow the doctor - not the Panchang. The ceremony's exact month (often sixth or eighth, varying by region) is a family custom, not something this list decides. A shubh nakshatra does not replace antenatal care.
