When is the Kuber Chalisa recited?
On Dhanteras and at the Diwali night puja, at Akshaya Tritiya, and on Fridays alongside Lakshmi. It is also read when a new safe, cash box or shop counter is put into use.
How is Kubera different from Lakshmi?
Lakshmi is prosperity; Kubera is its treasurer - Yakshraj, lord of Alkapuri, keeper of the northern quarter. So he is invoked for what stays rather than what arrives, which is why the two are worshipped together at Diwali.
Which direction should be used?
North, the quarter he guards. The cash box or safe is traditionally set to open towards the north, and the Kubera yantra kept on that wall. The yantra tool reads which yantra suits your own chart.
What is offered to him?
Yellow flowers, akshat, dhoop, a ghee lamp, kheer or a white sweet and dry fruit, with coins or a token from the cash box placed before him and taken back after the recitation.
Does reciting it bring money?
The tradition does not treat any chalisa as a transaction. What Kubera worship asks of the devotee is care and honesty with what is already held - and the daan the Chalisa keeps mentioning is part of the practice, not an afterthought to it.
