The dhyana shloka for Mangal - born of the earth, radiant as lightning, the youth bearing the spear - with the beej mantra and the Mangal Gayatri. The three are recited in that order.
Tuesdays, and at Angarki Chaturthi when a Chaturthi falls on a Tuesday. Morning after a bath, before a red flower and a lamp.
Mangal upasana, the Tuesday vrat, red daan and Hanuman worship are the remedies the tradition gives for an afflicted Mars. Whether the dosha is present, and whether it is cancelled, is settled by the Manglik dosha calculator.
Masoor dal, jaggery, copper and red cloth on a Tuesday, with the Hanuman Chalisa as the other remedy, since Hanuman is held to govern Mangal's force.
A natural malefic, but the same energy carries hard work through. The classical reading of an afflicted Mars is strength wrongly aimed rather than harm in itself, and every remedy is about the aim.
The Mangala Stotram - a hymn to Mangal Deva (Mars), recited to harmonise the energy of Mars and overcome its difficulties.
The hymn praises Mangala, born of the Earth, red and radiant, bestower of valour and well-being, and bows to him as a planet of strength.
Recited on Tuesdays to strengthen Mars, gain courage and energy, ease Mangal dosha and bring protection, vigour and success.
The Mangala Stotram above is given in both Devanagari (Sanskrit) and Roman transliteration so you can read it in whichever script you are comfortable with - switch between the two using the buttons above, share the link, or download a PDF.
A stotram is a longer Sanskrit hymn of praise, not a forty-verse chalisa and not the lamp-song of an aarti. Browse every stotra on the Stotram index. For japa of a short formula use a mantra. The steps of worship around the recitation are in Puja Vidhi.
