What is Manglik / Mangal Dosha?
Manglik Dosha — also called Mangal Dosha or Kuja Dosha — is a condition in Vedic astrology that arises from the placement of Mars (Mangal) in certain houses of the birth chart. A person with this placement is commonly called "Manglik".
The dosha is counted when Mars occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house. Because Mars is a fiery, assertive planet, its placement in these houses is traditionally believed to affect temperament, harmony, and timing in marriage. To be thorough, the placement is examined from three reference points — the Lagna (ascendant), the Moon, and Venus.
What this calculator shows
- Whether you are Manglik, and how strong the dosha is
- The house Mars occupies from the Lagna, Moon, and Venus
- Classical sign-based cancellations (Mangal Dosha Bhanga) that apply
- Mars's sign, degree, nakshatra, and state (retrograde / combust)
Is being Manglik a problem?
Not necessarily. Many charts carry the dosha, and a large number of cancellations and mitigating factors — Mars in its own or exalted sign, beneficial aspects, both partners being Manglik, and so on — can soften or nullify it. Mangal Dosha is only one factor and should never be read in isolation. For a personal reading and any remedies, consult a qualified astrologer.
