Why is the chart checked from the Moon and Venus as well as the Lagna?

Because each reference point tests a different layer. From the Lagna it touches the person and the body, from the Moon the emotional life, and from Venus the marriage itself. A chart that shows Mars in a Manglik house from only one of the three is far lighter than one where all three agree, which is why the strength matters more than the yes or no.

How common is it to be Manglik?

Very. Mars occupies six of the twelve houses in the classical list, so on a rough count something like a third to a half of all charts show it from at least one reference point. A condition that common cannot reasonably be treated as a barrier to marriage, which is exactly why the cancellation rules exist and why astrologers weigh the strength rather than the label.

What cancels Mangal Dosha?

Several classical conditions. Mars in its own signs (Aries or Scorpio), exalted in Capricorn, or in Leo and Cancer by some texts; Mars aspected by Jupiter; Mars in certain signs in the relevant house; and both partners carrying the dosha, which is the best known cancellation of all. Age is also cited - many texts treat the dosha as largely spent after about 28.

Should a Manglik and a non-Manglik avoid marrying?

That is a much harder line than the classics take. Mangal Dosha is one factor among many, and it is routinely offset by cancellations, by the rest of both charts and by the dasha periods each partner is running. Treating it as a veto has caused a great deal of unnecessary distress. Have the full charts read before anyone draws conclusions.

How does this relate to Guna Milan?

They are separate checks. Guna Milan scores the two Moons against each other out of 36 and does not look at Mars at all, which is why a match can score well and still raise a Manglik question. Run both, and read them together rather than letting either decide alone.

What is Manglik / Mangal Dosha?

Manglik Dosha - also called Mangal Dosha or Kuja Dosha - is a Mars-in-houses condition, not a personality type. It is counted when Mars (Mangal) occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. Because those houses touch the body, family, home, marriage, longevity and loss, a fiery planet there is traditionally read as heat in temperament, timing and harmony around partnership. A person with the placement is called Manglik. That label is a chart fact. It is not a verdict that the person should not marry.

To be thorough, the same house list is checked from three reference points: the Lagna, the Moon and Venus. A chart can be Manglik from one of those and clear from the others, which is why a single "yes/no" from a relative is often incomplete. Cancellations matter as much as the dosha. Mars in its own or exalted sign, certain aspects, and both partners being Manglik are among the factors that soften or nullify it in classical practice. The dosha is also only one layer of matching: Kundli Milan still scores the eight kootas from the two Moons, and the 7th lords, Venus and Navamsa live on each person's full Kundli. Being Manglik does not replace those, and a clean Manglik result does not replace them either.

The checker says I am Manglik but also that it is cancelled. Two families have already stepped back after hearing the first half of that sentence. What does cancellation actually mean in practice, and is a cancelled Manglik chart genuinely equivalent to a non-Manglik one?
