Shaastron ke anusaar, Ashadha maas ke Shukla paksha ki Devshayani Ekadashi ko Bhagwan Vishnu Ksheersagar mein Shesh-shayya par chaar maah ke liye yoga-nidra mein chale jaate hain. Yeh chaar maah ka kaal Chaturmas kehlaata hai. Kartik maas ke Shukla paksha ki is Ekadashi ko ve apni nidra se jaagte (utthte) hain — isiliye ise Devutthana, Prabodhini ya Dev Uthani Ekadashi kehte hain. Isi din se Chaturmas samaapt hota hai aur vivah, mundan, griha-pravesh jaise sabhi mangal kaarya phir se aarambh ho jaate hain.
Ek baar Devarshi Narad ji ne Bhagwan Vishnu se poocha ki is Ekadashi ka itna mahatva kyon hai. Bhagwan ne bataaya — "He Narad, jo bhakt Chaturmas bhar sanyam, niyam aur vrat ka paalan karta hai, aur is din shraddha se mujhe nidra se jagaakar meri pooja karta hai, uske saare paap nasht ho jaate hain aur use vaikunth ki praapti hoti hai." Maanyata hai ki is din bhaktgan vaadya, sankh aur ghanton ki dhwani se Bhagwan ko aadar-poorvak jagaate hain — "Uttho Devaa, baitho Devaa..." ke bhajan gaaye jaate hain.
Is pavitra din ka sabse vishesh anusthaan hai Tulsi Vivah. Maata Tulsi (Vrinda) ki Bhagwan Shaligram (Vishnu-roop) ke saath vidhi-poorvak vivah ki rasm dhoomdhaam se sampann ki jaati hai. Katha hai ki Tulsi ki achal pativrata-bhakti se prasann hokar Bhagwan ne unhe vardaan diya ki Shaligram-roop mein ve sada Tulsi ke saath rahenge, aur bina Tulsi-dal ke unki pooja adhoori maani jaayegi.
Maanyata hai ki jo bhakt shraddha se ghee ke deepak jalaakar, Tulsi-Shaligram ki pooja karke aur jagran karke is din Bhagwan ko jagaate hain, unke ghar se daridrya door hota hai aur Maa Lakshmi ka sthaayi vaas hota hai. Yeh din Deepawali ke kuch hi din baad aata hai aur shubh kaaryon ka mangal-dwaar khol deta hai.
Seekh: Devutthana (Prabodhini) Ekadashi sikhaati hai ki bhakti, sanyam aur maryada se hi jeevan ke shubh kaarya safal, samriddh aur mangalmay hote hain. Bhagwan ko shraddha se jagaakar ki gayi pooja ghar mein sukh aur Lakshmi laati hai.
