When is this aarti sung?
At sunrise, facing east, with the arghya of water offered to the Sun - that is the traditional moment. It is sung particularly on Sundays, at Makar Sankranti and Rath Saptami, and through the four days of Chhath.
How is arghya offered?
Standing facing the rising Sun, a copper vessel of water raised in both hands with roli, akshat and a red flower in it, poured in a thin stream so the light comes through it, with the mantra recited. Then the aarti with a ghee lamp.
Does this help a weak Sun in the horoscope?
Surya upasana is the first remedy the tradition names for an afflicted Sun, along with the Sunday vrat, red offerings and respect to the father. Whether your Sun is weak is a chart matter - the remedy tool reads it from your own placements.
What do the seven horses mean?
The seven horses of his chariot, with Arun as charioteer, are read as the seven colours of light and the seven days - one Sun manifesting as the whole visible spectrum and the whole week. The aarti keeps the image and calls him trigun swaroop.
