Word by Word Meaning

Om — the Pranava. Aim — the Saraswati-beej, the seed of pure speech and knowledge: the vowel ai, the sound of calling and articulation, sealed by the anusvara. The tradition calls Aim the vag-beeja, the seed of the word itself. Saraswatyai — unto Saraswati, "the flowing one," the river of speech, learning and music. Namah — salutation.

How to Chant

Chant 108 repetitions in the early morning — the hours before and around dawn, when the mind is clearest, are Saraswati's own — facing east, ideally before study or practice of music.
