About Chalisas

A chalisa (from "chalis", meaning forty) is a devotional hymn of forty verses (chaupais) in praise of a deity, framed by opening and closing dohas (couplets). The most famous is the Hanuman Chalisa by Goswami Tulsidas, but there are loved chalisas for nearly every god, goddess and planet.

Each chalisa on this page is given in two scripts for your convenience — Hindi (Devanagari) and English (Hinglish, Roman script) — so you can read it in whichever you are most comfortable with. Open any chalisa and use the buttons to switch script, share the link, or download a PDF. Reciting a chalisa with devotion, especially on the deity's special day, is a simple and beloved form of worship.
