তারপর আসে তারা হিমাদ্রি শিখরে।
দীর্ঘদিন সাধনায় সিদ্ধিলাভ করে॥
তারপর গুরু সঙ্গে শিষ্য দুইজন।
পৃথিবীর নানা দেশ করেন ভ্রমণ॥
বিভিন্ন ধর্মের তত্ত্ব জানিবার তরে।
উপস্থিত হন মক্কা-মদিনা নগরে॥
কাবুলে আসিয়া মোল্লা সাদির ভবনে।
কোরান শরীফ পাঠ করেন যতনে॥

বিশ্ব পরিক্রমা শেষে বেণীমাধব সঙ্গেতে।
উপস্থিত হন চন্দ্রনাথ পাহাড়েতে॥
দাবানল জ্বলে ওঠে বনের ভিতরে।
অগ্নি থেকে রক্ষা করেন বিজয় গোস্বামীরে॥
বেণীমাধব চলে যান কামাখ্যা ধামেতে।
বাবা নেমে আসলেন বারদী গ্রামেতে॥
বাবাকে প্রথমে কেহ চিনতে না পারে।
পাগল বলিয়া সবে উপহাস করে॥
একদিন দুই ব্রাহ্মণের পৈতা জড়াইলো।
গায়ত্রী করিয়া বাবা তাহা খুলে দিলো॥
চারিদিকে এইকথা প্রচার হইলো।
দলে দলে ভক্তবৃন্দ আসিতে লাগিল॥
অতঃপর আশ্রম হইলো বারদীতে।
বহুভক্ত শিষ্য সেথা লাগিল আসিতে॥
পাপী-তাপী, রোগী কত আসিল তথায়।
সবার কষ্ট বাবা করেন নিরাময়॥

শিষ্য আর ভক্তের বাবা বলেন একথা।
আমাকে ঠাকুর রূপে পূজা করা বৃথা॥
শ্রদ্ধাভক্তি নিয়ে যেবা আমারে ডাকিবে।
অবশ্যই সেই ভক্ত মোর সাড়া পাবে॥
আমি নেই এই কথা করো না মনেতে।
ছিলাম, আছি, থাকবো সদা তোদের মাঝেতে॥
জলে স্থলে যখনই বিপদে পড়িবে।
তখনই আমার কথা স্মরণ করিবে॥

কার সাধ্য সেইসব বর্ণিবারে পারে॥

১৬০ বৎসর বাবার বয়স হইলো।
মর্ত্যধাম ত্যাজিতে বাবার ইচ্ছা হলো॥
১২৯৭ সাল ১৯শে জ্যৈষ্ঠেতে।
দেহ ত্যাজি যান বাবা অমরলোকেতে॥
যার ঘরে বাবার চিত্র রাখিবে যতনে।
অন্নকষ্ট থাকিবে না তাহার ভুবনে॥
রোগ শোক দুঃখ কষ্ট সব দূরে যাবে।
পুত্র পৌত্র সহ সবে আনন্দে থাকিবে॥
বাবার পাঁচালী যেবা পড়ে কিংবা শুনে।
পুণ্যবান সেইজন সদা রেখো মনে॥

Who was Baba Loknath?

Loknath Brahmachari, the mahayogi born at Kachua to Ramkanai Ghoshal and Kamala Devi, who took sannyas at eleven from his guru Bhagaban Ganguly and spent decades in sadhana before settling at Barodi. He left his body on the 19th of Jyeshtha, 1297 in the Bengali era, at the age of a hundred and sixty.

What are the words he is remembered for?

Chhilam, achhi, thakbo - I was, I am, I shall remain. He told his devotees not to think of him as absent, and that whoever calls him with faith will get an answer. That assurance is why the panchali is read at home rather than only at a temple.

Is there a mantra or a diksha in his name?

No, and the panchali says so plainly. He gave no mantra and no initiation; his name is itself the mantra for this age, and the more it is spoken the more good comes of it. He also told his devotees that worshipping him as an image was pointless without devotion.

That where his image is kept with care, want of food will not enter the house, and illness and sorrow will pass. The panchali is read as a daily or weekly practice for that protection, and reading or even hearing it is held to be meritorious in itself.
