तृणीभूतहेतिं रणोद्यद्विभूतिं
भजे वायुपुत्रं हनूमन्तमीडे॥३॥

रणे भीषणे मेघनादे सनाथे
सरोषं समारोप्य सौमित्रिमान्ये।
घनानां घनानां सुराणां च मार्गे
नटन्तं चलन्तं हनूमन्तमीडे॥४॥

समुद्रान्तरङ्गाङ्खसान्द्रां विनिद्रां
विलङ्घ्यादितेयैः स्तुतो मर्त्यसङ्घैः।
निरातङ्कमानी च लङ्कां विशङ्को
भवानेव सीतारिहा पापहारी॥५॥

नमस्ते महासत्त्ववाहाय तुभ्यं
नमस्ते महावज्रदेहाय तुभ्यम्।
नमस्ते कृतारामकार्याय तुभ्यं
नमस्ते कृतब्रह्मचर्याय तुभ्यम्॥६॥

हनूमद्भुजङ्गप्रयातं प्रभाते
प्रदोषे दिवा चार्धरात्रे च मर्त्यः।
पठन् देशिकोऽपीह मुक्तान्तरायः
सदा सर्वदा रामभक्तिं प्रयाति॥७॥

What is the bhujanga metre?

Bhujangaprayata, the serpent's glide - long rolling feet that give the hymn a swaying momentum. It is the metre Adi Shankaracharya used for several of his hymns, and it suits recitation aloud.

How does it differ from the Hanuman Chalisa?

This is Sanskrit in a demanding metre, praising Hanuman's form and power and then asking for refuge; the Chalisa is Awadhi and narrative. Devotees who want a longer, more formal recitation come to this one.

When is it recited?

Tuesdays and Saturdays, at Hanuman Jayanti, and by those keeping a longer Hanuman practice or a sankalpa during difficulty.

What is it recited for?

Are there rules of purity for it?
