Frequently asked questions about Kundli Milan

Is a score below 18 a rejection?

No. Eighteen is a conventional screening line, not a rule from the classics. A modest score tells you to look closer, not to walk away - many long, happy marriages sit in the teens. What matters more is which kootas are missing, whether any dosha present is cancelled, and how the two full charts and their running dashas sit together.

Why does Nadi carry eight points when other kootas carry one or two?

Nadi was weighted heaviest because the tradition linked it to constitutional compatibility and the health of children. It is the single largest block in the 36, so a Nadi mismatch alone can drag an otherwise good match under the line. This is also the koota with the most recognised exemptions, so a Nadi dosha should always be checked for cancellation before it is treated as serious.

Does a full 36 out of 36 guarantee a happy marriage?

It does not, and the tradition never claimed it would. Guna Milan compares the Moon's Nakshatra and Rashi only. It says nothing about the 7th house, Venus, Mars, the Navamsa, the Upapada Lagna, or the dasha periods each partner is running - all of which shape how a marriage actually goes. A perfect score is a good start, not a finished analysis.

What are Bhakoot and Nadi dosha, and can they be cancelled?

Bhakoot dosha appears when the two Moon signs fall in certain distances from each other (commonly 6-8 or 2-12), and is linked to friction over money and family. Nadi dosha appears when both partners share the same Nadi. Both have classical cancellations - a shared Rashi lord, the same Nakshatra with different padas, or strong Graha Maitri, among others. Have any flagged dosha checked before drawing conclusions.

How is this different from the Manglik check?

Guna Milan scores the two Moons against each other. The Manglik check looks at where Mars sits in each individual chart, and is scored separately because it can affect a match that otherwise passes comfortably. Run both. House overlays and graha drishti between the two full charts are on the Synastry Compatibility calculator. For Moon signs only, add Rashi compatibility.

About Kundli Milan (Guna Milan)

Kundli Milan - also known as Ashtakoot or Guna Milan - is the classical Vedic screen for marriage matching. It does not compare Sun signs, and it does not read two full birth charts against each other. It compares the Moon's Nakshatra and Rashi of both people across eight factors (kootas). That is why two partners with "the same sign" in a newspaper column can still score poorly here, and why a couple whose Sun signs look unrelated can still match on the Moon.

Each koota looks at a different layer of life together. The points are not equal: Nadi carries 8 of the 36, Bhakoot 7, Gana 6, Graha Maitri 5, Yoni 4, Tara 3, Vashya 2 and Varna 1.

  • Varna - temperament and ego
  • Vashya - mutual attraction and give-and-take
  • Tara - health and destiny
  • Yoni - intimacy and instinct
  • Graha Maitri - mental and emotional friendship
  • Gana - nature and disposition
  • Bhakoot - love, finances, and family welfare
  • Nadi - health and progeny (the largest share, 8 points)

Add them and you get a score out of 36 gunas. As a rough guide used in practice: 18 and above is considered workable, 24 to 32 is very good, and below 18 calls for a closer look rather than an automatic refusal. This page also flags the two things families most often miss - Bhakoot dosha and Nadi dosha - and whether either chart is Manglik. Manglik is a Mars-in-houses question, not a koota; the Manglik calculator is the dedicated check, including classical cancellations.

A modest score is not a "no", and 36 out of 36 is not a guarantee. Guna Milan does not see the 7th-house lords, Venus, the Darakaraka, Navamsa, or the dashas the two people will actually be running when they marry. Those live on each person's full Kundli. The Kundli Milan guide explains what the eight kootas were for, and what they were never meant to decide on their own. In a Jaimini reading the marriage pada is a separate count - the Upapada Lagna guide shows how it is made, and the Upapada calculator runs it on a birth. For a question about a specific match - a second marriage, a large age gap, a known Nadi clash - Ask Pandit Ji can weigh both charts in chat. Astrology does not replace the conversation the two people still have to have.

I am born on 11th of October 1996 at 5:55 pm ( location hidden ). My question is should I marry my boyfriend Jasveer born on 4th Feb 1998 around 10-10:30 Am   ( location hidden )  . Our family don’t like each other. We fight a lot but we also can’t stay away from each other. Dating for 4 years now. Broke up because of family. We had our roka done too.

Namaste. The intense bond you share with your partner alongside recurring friction and family opposition is clearly reflected in your birth chart. With your 7th lord of marriage, Venus placed in your 5th house of romance, there is genuine affection, attachment and strong mutual attraction that makes staying apart so difficult.

However, your Lagna lord Mars is debilitated in your 4th house, which rules family peace, domestic roots and maternal approval. This placement naturally generates sharp domestic friction, family resistance and reactive temperaments. Furthermore, having your Moon combust alongside Sun and Rahu in the 6th house creates recurring argument loops with your parents (at the same time, too much attachment towards them) creating mental restlessness and intense emotional highs and lows.

Moving directly into marriage, both you and your partner’s charts indicating high chances of getting married in the year 2027. But to make this marriage sustained and successful, you have to address these underlying patterns and frictions with family members; otherwise there will be chances of sudden break-and-make cycles into your domestic life. Marriage between you two requires clear communication during conflict and handling family concerns with patient diplomacy rather than emotional rebellion. Take time right now to evaluate whether both of you can build mutual emotional restraint, mature conflict management and respectful boundary-setting with family members before committing formally again.

To cool the planetary heat triggering domestic arguments and emotional distress, consider chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" 108 times daily to steady your Moon, and offering water to the rising Sun every morning. Practice taking a pause whenever an argument escalates rather than reacting immediately.

Your Kundli Milan points is 19, which means not very satisfying and there will be some clashes after marriage between you two. You can also generate a detailed report using the Kundli Milan - Ashtakoot tool. May clarity, patience and emotional balance guide your heart forward.

I'm 33 years and still single. Is there marriage in my charts or have I missed the age of marriage ? and also where will I meet my soulmate and when ?

Please guide . Thank you .

Namaste. Rest assured, marriage is strongly promised in your horoscope and you have definitely not missed your age for marriage. As a Cancer (Karka) Lagna native, your 7th house of marriage is Capricorn (Makara), and it is occupied by its own lord, Saturn. In Vedic astrology, Saturn's presence in the 7th house naturally causes late marriage rather than denial. This delay is actually a blessing in disguise; it shields you from early mismatched commitments and ensures you step into a deeply practical, stable and lifelong union with full emotional maturity.

The absolute best planetary and transit window for you to meet your soulmate and finalize marriage is currently running and will be highly active till mid-2028. You are currently in the major planetary period of Jupiter Mahadasha and the sub-period of Venus Antardasha. Venus is the planet of love and is magnificently exalted in your 9th house of travel, wisdom and higher purpose, while Jupiter actively aspects your 7th house of partnership. Given these 9th and 3rd house connections, you are most likely to meet your partner through higher education, professional workshops or seminars, long-distance travel, spiritual/cultural gatherings or through mutual acquaintances and professional networks. Your future spouse will be practical, highly dependable, grounded and very serious about family responsibilities.

To align your energy and remove any lingering delays:

Honor Goddess Lakshmi on Fridays: Light a ghee lamp or offer pink flowers on Friday evenings to activate your exalted Venus.

Prayers to Lord Shiva: Offer water or milk (Abhishekam) to a Shivling on Mondays to bring peace and harmony to your Moon (Lagna lord) and soften Saturn's delay.

For a detailed view of your specific planetary periods and relationship strength, you can also check our Marriage Timing Possibility - Vivah Yoga in Kundli. May your upcoming Jupiter-Venus period bring you the love and togetherness you deserve.

Where is my life partner ? I would like to know in my Kundali where will I find him? And when will I find him?

Namaste. In your birth chart, your 7th house of marriage and partnership falls in Gemini (Mithuna), ruled by Mercury, while Venus acts as the key significator for marriage. Both your 7th lord Mercury and Venus are placed together in the 12th house (Scorpio). This strong 12th-house alignment points to a life partner who comes from a distant location, a different city/state or a foreign land, or someone you meet while away from your birthplace; such as during higher studies, work in a multinational/remote setting, travel or through digital/online connections.

Nature and Background of Your Partner:

With Gemini on the 7th house and Mercury in Scorpio, your partner will be intellectually sharp, communicative and analytical, yet introspective and deeply private. They are likely involved in fields requiring deep research, data, technology, finance or specialized consultancy. Scorpio's influence gives them a quiet intensity, emotional depth and strong loyalty once a bond is formed.

Timing Window:

You are currently running your major Venus Mahadasha (the primary planet for marriage and partnerships). The most active and supportive window for meeting your partner and finalizing marriage falls between late 2026 and mid-2028 (during the Venus-Moon Dasha period) extending into 2029 (Venus-Mars period).

Remedies & Guidance:

To keep the 12th-house planetary energy smooth and build a harmonious connection, chant the Vishnu Sahasranama or the simple mantra "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" on Thursdays, and practice mindful communication in relationships.

For a deeper analysis of your future partner's traits and background, you can explore the How will be Your Spouse based on Kundli tool.

Your marriage calculator indicates that my marriage may not be beneficial for me. If I choose to have a love marriage instead, will it turn out to be beneficial for me?

Please guide me on this. Thank you.

Thank you for reaching out to us! The calculator is right in saying that Marriage is not beneficial for you. Be it arranged, love or a legal ( court ) marriage. Any form of marriage will bring in difficulties in your life. However you can chose a different path which might be unconventional and controversial in some parts of the world, like living with your partner in a live-in relationship which is not bound by the societal norms of marriage. After this what you do, is your own free will that will decide your fate.

What if I choose to marry someone and keep it hidden and do not do any kind of societal issues?
Thank you for you cross-question for better understanding. The problem in your kundli is the act of marriage itself. So even if you marry in secret , its still considered an active marriage. If you divorce and re-marry in secret. You are going to have the same problems. Some people are not meant for marriages. With our calculators you can find this early , and can save yourself from going through the pain. However its still your call and personal free will , as how you want to go ahead with your life. Astrologers can show the path, you have to do the walking .

We scored 22 out of 36 and my family is treating that as a warning even though the two of us get along very well. What does a score in the low twenties actually tell you, and which of the eight kootas matter enough that a low mark in them deserves real attention?

In classical Vedic astrology, an Ashtakoota score of 18 out of 36 is the traditional threshold of acceptability, meaning a score of 22 is a solid, above-average match (over 60%). Families sometimes react with concern because popular culture has popularized seeking scores of 28 or above, but a 22/36 is in no way a "danger" sign or an automatic mismatch. The Guna Milan system is only a preliminary Nakshatra-level filter; real-life compatibility, emotional maturity, and mutual understanding always carry deeper weight than a single number.

When assessing where the points were lost, classical Jyotish prioritizes two heavyweight Kootas above all others: Nadi (8 points) and Bhakoot (7 points)

Nadi assesses physiological harmony and lineage/genetic balance.

Bhakoot governs emotional bonding and long-term domestic peace.

Gana (6 points) assesses general temperament (with your Moon in Mula Nakshatra, you belong to Rakshasa Gana, which simply indicates strong willpower and directness).

If your match has secured good points in Nadi and Bhakoot, losing marks in the smaller categories—such as Varna (1 pt), Vashya (2 pts), Tara (3 pts), or Maitri (5 pts)—has very little adverse impact on day-to-day marital life. Furthermore, individual horoscopes override the raw Milan score: factors like 7th house strength, mutual Lagna lord friendliness, and the running Dashas (you are currently in your supportive Moon Mahadasha) determine marital longevity far more accurately than Guna points alone.

To help reassure your family and clear unnecessary anxiety, reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama or simply offering fresh water to Surya Dev each morning helps bring clarity and familial harmony. For a detailed breakdown of how each point is weighted and why exemptions often neutralize low scores, you can explore the Kundli Milan Guide.

Based on my Upapada Lagna and Navamsa (D9) chart, could I have a good married life? I would be very happy if you could provide an answer. Thank you.

Namaste. Yes, you have very promising planetary foundations for a stable, dignified, and fulfilling married life, provided you approach partnership with mutual patience and clear communication.

In Vedic astrology, your Upapada Lagna (the arudha of the 12th house, associated with the sustenance and sanctity of marriage) connects directly with the grounding influence of Saturn. In your birth chart, your 7th house of marriage (Kanya) is exceptionally energized by the conjunction of Jupiter (your Lagna lord) and Mars (your 9th lord of fortune). This forms a powerful Dharma-Karmadhipati Yoga right in your relationship sphere. Jupiter’s auspicious presence acts as a divine shield—ensuring that your bond is anchored in strong moral values, mutual respect, and social standing. While Mars can bring an assertive temperament or occasional clashes of will, Jupiter’s presence tempers that fire into high integrity and protective loyalty rather than discord.

Your Navamsa (D9) Lagna in Kumbha (Aquarius) aligns directly with your natal Moon and Saturn, which is a very significant marker. It indicates that marriage serves as a major path of personal maturation and spiritual grounding for you. A Kumbha Navamsa thrives best when the partnership is treated as a deep friendship based on shared ideals, intellectual equality, and emotional freedom rather than rigid traditional expectations. Furthermore, natural marriage significator Venus sits gracefully in your 4th house of domestic happiness (Mithuna) alongside an exalted-ruling Mercury, blessing your home life with cultural refinement, pleasant conversation, and comfort.

To maintain sweet harmony and channel the energy of Mars and Jupiter productively in your domestic life: - Respect and Calm Communication: Whenever disagreements arise, allow Jupiter's calm intellect to lead rather than reactive impulses. - Remedy: Offer a few drops of milk mixed with water to a Shiva Lingam or light a pure ghee lamp on Fridays while chanting Om Shukraya Namaha (11 or 108 times) to keep marital sweetness and peace flourishing.

You are currently in your Saturn–Venus dasha period (running until May 2027), a prime planetary phase for experiencing stability and enrichment in domestic life. For a deeper look at the specific strengths of your marriage indications, you can explore the Is Marriage Good for Me? Kundli Analysis. May the divine blessings always guide your journey together.
