Eclipse / Grahan Calendar 2027

A list of every solar (Surya Grahan) and lunar (Chandra Grahan) eclipse of the year — each with its type, whether it is visible in India, the grahan start and end times (shown in your local time) and the Sutak Kaal where it is observed. A penumbral (upachhaya) lunar eclipse is generally not kept as a grahan.

Solar & Lunar Eclipses

February 2027

  • Annular Solar Eclipse (Surya Grahan) Not visible in India

Saturday, 6 February 2027 Magha Amavasya · Kumbha

    Grahan 7:07 PM 11:53 PM

An annular “ring of fire” solar eclipse visible from Chile, Argentina, the south Atlantic, west Africa and Antarctica. Not visible in India, so no Sutak Kaal is observed.

  • Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) Penumbral — no Sutak

Sunday, 21 February 2027 Magha Purnima · Simha

    Grahan 2:28 AM 6:58 AM

A faint penumbral (upachhaya) lunar eclipse in the early-morning sky over India. Penumbral eclipses are not kept as a grahan in the Hindu tradition, so no Sutak Kaal applies.

July 2027

  • Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) Penumbral — no Sutak

Sunday, 18 July 2027 Ashadha Purnima

An extremely faint penumbral (upachhaya) lunar eclipse — the Moon barely grazes Earth’s outer shadow. It is not kept as a grahan, so no Sutak Kaal applies.

August 2027

  • Total Solar Eclipse (Surya Grahan) Partial in India

Monday, 2 August 2027 Shravana Amavasya · Karka (Ashlesha)

    Grahan 1:00 PM 6:14 PM

The “Great North African Eclipse” — totality (up to 6 min 23 s, the longest of this century) crosses Spain, north Africa, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. In India a partial eclipse is visible from about 4:30 PM until sunset across western and southern India. Sutak Kaal (12 hours before the peak) applies where the eclipse is visible.

  • Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) Not visible in India

Tuesday, 17 August 2027 Shravana Purnima · Kumbha

A penumbral (upachhaya) lunar eclipse occurring during the day in India with the Moon below the horizon. Not visible in India and, being penumbral, not kept as a grahan — no Sutak Kaal.

Grahan start and end times are shown in your local time. Sutak Kaal applies only where the eclipse is visible; a penumbral (upachhaya) lunar eclipse is generally not kept as a grahan. Times are computed for India and may differ slightly from regional almanacs.
