About the Tip Calculator

The Tip Calculator takes the guesswork out of paying at a restaurant. Enter the bill, pick how much you want to tip, and — if you are eating with friends — split the whole thing evenly between any number of people. Every figure updates instantly as you type.

How the tip is worked out

The tip is simply the bill multiplied by your chosen percentage. A 15% tip on a 1,200 bill is 180, making the total 1,380. The quick buttons (10%, 15%, 18%, 20%, 25%) cover the most common amounts, or you can type any percentage you like.

Splitting the bill

Set how many people are sharing and the calculator divides the total with tip evenly between them, showing what each person owes and how much of that is tip. Turn on Round up each person’s share to round each amount up to a whole number — handy for cash, and it always covers the bill.

How much should I tip?

Tipping customs vary by country. In the United States 15–20% is typical for table service; in much of Europe a smaller tip or rounding up is normal; and in many countries a service charge is already included. Use whatever percentage suits where you are.

Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded — and amounts are shown in whatever currency you are using.
