Frequently asked questions about Hindi Panchang
Which reckoning does this panchang follow?
The North Indian one - Vikram Samvat for the year and Purnimanta months, where each lunar month ends at the full moon. That is the convention of the Banaras and Mithila almanacs and of most Hindi-belt panchangs.
What does Purnimanta change?
Only the month label of the dark fortnight. A Krishna Paksha day that a Marathi or Telugu almanac calls Shravana is Bhadrapada here, because the north counts the dark fortnight as belonging to the month that follows. The tithi and the festival are the same day.
What does each day show?
The tithi and nakshatra prevailing at sunrise, the Samvat year, the lunar month and any festival or vrat falling that day. For the full five limbs of a single day with sunrise, Rahu Kalam and the shubh windows, use the daily Panchang for your city.
Why does my wall calendar show a festival a day earlier?
Because a tithi rarely fills a whole day. When it starts in the afternoon and ends the next afternoon, different almanacs assign it to different dates depending on whether they use the sunrise rule or a specific rule for that festival. Follow the date your family or temple keeps.
Can I fix a muhurat from this page?
It will tell you whether the tithi and nakshatra of a day are suitable, but not the hour. For a dated list with the shubh window use the muhurat pages, and for the day\'s own good and bad periods the daily Panchang.
