What is the Saptarshi Samvat used here?
The Laukika or Saptarshi era of the Kashmiri Pandit almanacs, running some 3076 years ahead of the Common Era, with the year turning at Navreh on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada.
Which month scheme does it use?
Amanta - each lunar month ends at the new moon. So on the dark fortnight this panchang agrees with the Marathi and Telugu almanacs rather than with the Purnimanta reckoning of the plains.
Which observances does it mark?
Herath, the Kashmiri Shivaratri kept on the Phalguna Krishna Trayodashi; Navreh with the thaal seen on waking; Zyeth Aatham at Kheer Bhawani; Pann; Gaad Batt; and Khetsimavas. The Kashmiri calendar gives the festival list for the year.
Why is Herath on a different tithi from Maha Shivaratri elsewhere?
Because the Kashmiri tradition keeps it on the Trayodashi, with the vatuk puja, rather than on the Chaturdashi that the rest of India observes. It is a genuine difference of tradition, not a computation error.
