What does this calendar list?
The national calendar view - public and gazetted holidays, national days, and the principal festivals of every community, month by month with the date for each. It is the practical planning calendar rather than a religious almanac.
Which era does it use?
Shaka Samvat, the era of the Indian national calendar adopted in 1957, with Amanta lunar months alongside the Gregorian dates. Shaka years run 78 behind the Common Era.
Are the holidays the same in every state?
No. India has a small set of national holidays and a much longer list of state-specific and restricted ones, so a day off in one state is a working day in another. Treat the list as the full field and check your own state's gazette for what applies to you.
Why do some festival dates move each year?
Because they follow the lunar or the sidereal-solar calendar rather than the Gregorian. A lunar festival shifts across roughly a month over the years; a Sankranti festival stays within a day or two, since it is fixed to the Sun's entry into a sign.
