What is Pitra Dosha?
Pitra Dosha (also Pitru Dosha) is a karmic affliction carried down the family line — the unfulfilled wishes, unpaid debts or unperformed last rites of forefathers, said to reflect in a descendant's birth chart. In Vedic astrology it is read mainly from the Sun (the karaka of father and ancestors), the 9th house (father, dharma and forefathers) and its lord.
The dosha is indicated when these are afflicted by Rahu, Ketu or Saturn — for example the Sun joined with Rahu (the "eclipse" / Surya-Rahu yoga), a lunar node sitting in the 9th house, or the 9th lord conjoined or aspected by a malefic node. This checker tests each classical signature and shows you exactly which ones are present.
Pitra Dosha is traditionally linked to recurring obstacles, delays in marriage or progeny, and family discord — but it is also considered very remediable. Shraddha and Tarpan in Pitru Paksha, Pind Daan at sacred sites, feeding crows and brahmins, and the worship of Vishnu and the Sun are the time-honoured remedies.
