How is this different from Varshaphala?
Varshaphala starts at Varsha Pravesh, the Sun's return to its natal longitude. Tithi Pravesha starts at the tithi return, the Moon catching the same angle on the Sun. They can fall days apart. Read them as two year clocks, not as substitutes for each other or for the natal chart on Kundli Maker.
Does a 6th, 8th or 12th house year lagna mean a bad year?
No. Those houses describe the stage the year is played on, not a verdict. A 6th-house year often asks for service, skill and health routine; the 8th for shared resources and research; the 12th for retreat or foreign travel. Dusthana lagna asks for care, not fatalism, and it cannot cancel a strong natal chart.
Why does the date move, and how exact does the birth time need to be?
The lunar year is about eleven days shorter than the solar year, so the tithi return drifts on the English calendar until an extra month resets it.
