What is Shani Dhaiya (Small Panoti)?
Shani Dhaiya — also called Dhaiyya or Small Panoti (Laghu Panoti) — is a roughly two-and-a-half year period when the planet Saturn (Shani) transits the 4th or 8th sign counted from your natal Moon sign. Since Saturn stays about 2.5 years in one sign, each Dhaiya lasts about that long.
There are two kinds:
- Kantaka Shani (also Ardha-Ashtama Shani) — Saturn in the 4th from the Moon; said to affect home, mother, property, vehicles, and peace of mind.
- Ashtama Shani — Saturn in the 8th from the Moon; said to affect health, longevity, joint finances, and to bring sudden changes.
Dhaiya is different from Sade Sati, which is the longer 7.5-year transit over the 12th, 1st, and 2nd from the Moon. Dhaiya is shorter and is sometimes called the "small" Panoti for that reason.

Is Dhaiya bad?
Not inherently. Like all Saturn periods, Dhaiya rewards patience, discipline, and honest effort, and its real impact depends on the strength and placement of Saturn in your chart. It should not be a cause for fear. For a personal reading and any remedies, consult a qualified astrologer.
