What is Janma Mahadasha?
Your Janma Mahadasha is the Vimshottari Dasha (major planetary period) that was running at the moment you were born. In Vedic astrology, the entire life is divided into nine Mahadashas — ruled by Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury — that together span 120 years.
The starting Mahadasha lord is fixed by your birth Nakshatra (the lunar mansion the Moon occupied at birth), and the balance at birth is the unspent portion of that lord's period. From there the dashas run in the fixed Vimshottari order, each one coloured by the nature of its ruling planet.
What this calculator shows

Dashas describe the timing of life events — which planet's results are likely to unfold and when. For a personal reading of how a period may affect you, consult a qualified astrologer. For accuracy, enter your exact birth time and pick your birth city from the dropdown so the coordinates and timezone are correct.
