What are the five Vimshottari levels?
Mahadasha is the chapter (years). Antardasha is the sub-plot inside it. Pratyantardasha narrows that to months. Sukshma (also written Sookshma or Sukhshma) is weeks to a few days. Prana is the finest clock, often hours to a couple of days. Each level splits its parent among the same nine lords, in the same order, weighted by each lord's years in the 120-year cycle. This page lists those periods through age 100.
How is this different from Janma Mahadasha?
Janma Mahadasha is the birth-balance page: which Mahadasha was running at birth, how much of it was left, and the 120-year timeline. This page is the nested clock - all five levels running now, or on a date you pick, with the sibling periods at each level listed through age 100. Use that one to see how the cycle started; use this one to see what is ticking today.
Does a short Prana Dasha mean something will happen that day?
No. A dasha times when a result the chart already holds is more likely to surface. Prana is useful for narrowing a window you already have a reason to watch - a transit, a question, a ceremony - not for inventing events. If the natal chart does not support the topic, a Prana of any lord will not create it.
Why does a few minutes of birth time move the dates?
Because the whole sequence is anchored to the Moon's exact nakshatra degree. A few minutes shifts the balance of the first Mahadasha, and that shift is inherited by every nested level. Mahadasha dates move a little; Prana dates can jump hours. Treat the finest levels as centres of gravity unless the birth time is confirmed.
Is this the same as Mahadasha Phala?

Should I prefer this over Char Dasha or Yogini Dasha?
Vimshottari is the default timing system for most Parashari work, which is why it is the one to learn first. Char Dasha (Jaimini signs) and Yogini Dasha (a 36-year tantric cycle) are cross-checks. When two systems point at the same stretch for the same kind of event, the timing is held with more confidence; when they disagree, the honest reading is mixed.

Vimshottari Dasha is the 120-year timing system of Parashari Jyotish. The Moon's nakshatra at birth names the starting planet, and the portion of that star already crossed becomes the balance of the first Mahadasha. From there nine lords - Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury - take turns in a fixed order. Each major period then splits the same way into Antardasha, Pratyantardasha, Sukshma (Sookshma / Sukhshma) and Prana.
