Where does Yogini Dasha come from?
From the Rudrayamala Tantra, in the tantric stream of Jyotish rather than the Parashari mainstream. It divides life among eight Yoginis, each attached to a planet, across a compact 36-year cycle that repeats. That short cycle is why many astrologers use it as a fast second opinion alongside Vimshottari.
Are Ulka and Sankata periods to be feared?
They ask for patience rather than fear. Ulka carries Saturn and Sankata carries Rahu, so the classics describe them as demanding, slow or unsettled stretches. As always the actual result depends on how Saturn and Rahu sit in your own chart, and a strong placement can make these among the more productive years.
Why is the cycle only 36 years?
Because the eight Yoginis run one to eight years in sequence - Mangala one, Pingala two, up to Sankata eight - and those add to 36. Most people therefore live through the same Yogini two or three times, which lets you compare how a given Yogini behaved for you in the past.
How should I read it against Vimshottari?
As confirmation. When a supportive Yogini overlaps a supportive Vimshottari period, the tradition treats the indication as stronger; when they contradict, expect a mixed stretch rather than a clear one. The Vimshottari timeline stays the primary system for most practitioners.
