Darshan checklist — what to carry & know

  • Dress modestly — cover shoulders and knees; some temples enforce a traditional dress code (dhoti / saree).
  • You will remove footwear before entering — wear easy slip-on shoes and carry socks for hot floors.
  • Carry small cash for the hundi, prasad and footwear stalls; many sanctums do not allow phones or bags inside.
  • Take an offering — flowers, a coconut, fruit or sweets — and a bag to carry prasad home.
  • Avoid leather items (belts, wallets, bags) inside the temple premises.
  • Go early for the morning darshan to beat the queues; check aarti timings and any online darshan booking.
  • Keep water and a cap for long queues, and respect photography and silence rules inside the shrine.

About the Temple Visit & Darshan Planner

The Temple Visit & Darshan Planner helps you plan a pilgrimage from wherever you are. It brings together India's most revered temples — the twelve Jyotirlingas, the four Char Dham and the Himalayan Chota Char Dham, the Shakti Peethas, the Vaishnava Divya Desams, and major Devi, Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha, Hanuman and Murugan shrines — in one place. Use the language toggle at the top to read everything in English or Hindi.

How it works

Set or detect your location at the top and every temple is sorted by distance and direction from you, so you can quickly see what is nearest and plan a route. You can change the location at any time to plan a trip from another city, and filter the list by tradition (for example, show only Jyotirlingas or only Shakti Peethas).

What each temple shows

  • The presiding deity, town and state, and the tradition it belongs to.
  • Its main festivals through the year, with the upcoming one highlighted — the best time to visit for a grand darshan.
  • Practical notes such as dress codes, treks, online darshan booking and seasonal opening, where relevant.

The distances are great-circle (straight-line) estimates to help you compare temples at a glance, not road directions. Festival months are indicative — most Hindu festivals follow the lunar calendar and shift each year, so confirm exact dates on the temple's official channels before you travel. For the day's tithi and muhurat at your destination, see the daily Panchang; for festival dates, see the Hindu calendars.
