Frequently asked questions about Lucky Metal

How is gold or silver decided?

By the temperament of the ruling planet. The warm, expansive planets - Sun, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter - lean to gold, while the cool and watery ones - Moon, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu - lean to silver. Your Moon sign lord gives the primary verdict, with the ascendant and birth star lords supporting it.

What if my sources disagree?

Follow the Moon sign lord, which is the primary reading, and treat the other metal as also acceptable. Many people wear both - gold in one piece and silver in another - and there is no tradition that says mixing them is harmful.

Does the metal matter more than the gemstone?

The other way round. In classical practice the metal is chosen to suit the gemstone it holds, because the setting is meant to be in contact with the skin along with the stone. If you are wearing a prescribed Ratna, its traditional metal takes priority over any general recommendation here.

What about copper, iron and Ashtadhatu?

They belong to the same scheme. Copper goes with the Sun and Mars, iron with Saturn, platinum with Venus, and Ashtadhatu - the eight-metal alloy - is the traditional choice for Rahu and Ketu. This calculator reduces the answer to the two everyday jewellery metals, but the fuller set is still in use for rings and kadas.

Should I stop wearing the other metal?

There is no need. Nothing in the tradition treats the non-recommended metal as harmful; it is simply less supportive. Keep the jewellery you love, and if you want to apply this, add a piece in your metal and wear it on your lucky day.

Should you wear Gold or Silver? The Vedic view

In Vedic practice each graha has a metal, usually the one its gem is set in. Reduced to everyday jewellery, gold leans with the warm planets Sun, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter; silver leans with Moon, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. Finer lists still mention copper, iron, platinum and Ashtadhatu.

This page reads the Moon-sign lord, Lagna lord and Nakshatra lord and gives a gold-or-silver verdict. Wear the metal close to the skin, often with the matching gem, especially on your lucky day. Exact time and city keep those lords right. This is association, not a medical or financial prescription.

This is not a gem recommendation. See lucky day, lucky symbol and gemstone suggestions. Dates sit on lucky dates.

Should I wear silver or gold according to my dob

Namaste Saurav,

Between gold and silver, silver is the most harmonious and beneficial metal for you to wear.

In Vedic astrology, the metals you wear should strengthen your functional benefics and soothe sensitive points in your birth chart:

1. Ascendant & Functional Alignment:

You are born under Kanya Lagna (Virgo Ascendant) with your Lagna lord, Mercury, exalted in the 1st house forming an auspicious Bhadra Yoga. Mercury aligns beautifully with cool, calm, balancing energies. Furthermore, your 2nd and 9th house lords (Venus and Saturn), which govern your wealth and fortune, resonate deeply with silver or white metals, whereas pure gold amplifies the fire element of the Sun and Mars, both of which sit in your 12th house (Simha).

2. Mental Balance & Rahu-Moon Contact:

Your Moon sits exalted in Taurus (Vrishabha) in the 9th house, which is magnificent, but it closely shares this space with Rahu. Wearing silver—the classical metal of Chandra (the Moon)—helps stabilize your mind, cools emotional restlessness, and protects the mind from Rahu's fluctuating illusions.

3. Current Dasha Nuance:

You are currently running Jupiter Mahadasha. While Jupiter rules gold, for a Kanya Lagna native, Jupiter rules the 4th and 7th houses (Kendradhipati dosha) and sits exalted in the 11th. Wearing heavy yellow gold on the body on a daily basis is not necessary; instead, keeping your jewelry in pure silver or white gold will bring far greater grounding, clarity, and peace.

Practical Recommendation:

A simple, solid silver ring or a silver chain/bracelet worn on the right hand (or around the neck) is ideal.

If you ever wish to wear an Emerald (Panna) for your exalted Lagna lord Mercury in the future, it can be set in silver, white gold, or panchdhatu.
