About the Psychic Number (Mulank)
The Psychic Number, known in Indian numerology as the Mulank (and also called the Driver or Birthday number), is one of the most important numbers in Ank Jyotish. It is calculated only from the day of the month on which you were born.
How the Mulank is calculated
Take the day of birth and reduce it to a single digit from 1 to 9. For example, someone born on the 29th gets 2 + 9 = 11, then 1 + 1 = 2. Someone born on the 7th simply has Mulank 7. Unlike some Western systems, the Mulank is always reduced to a single digit.
What it reveals
The Mulank reflects your inner self — your natural temperament, instincts, likes, and dislikes. It is strongest from roughly ages 35–40 onward, though its influence is felt throughout life. Each number is governed by a planet:
- 1 — Sun, 2 — Moon, 3 — Jupiter
- 4 — Rahu, 5 — Mercury, 6 — Venus
- 7 — Ketu, 8 — Saturn, 9 — Mars
Psychic vs Destiny number
The Mulank (Psychic Number) is read from the day alone, while the Bhagyank (Destiny Number) is derived from the full date of birth. The Psychic Number describes who you are inside; the Destiny Number describes the path life sets out for you.
