What is a Saturn Return?
It is the ~29.5-year moment when transiting Saturn comes back to the same sidereal degree it occupied at birth. Most people meet a first return near 28-30, a second near 57-59, and a third near 86-89. This page uses Lahiri ayanamsa, so the dates are Vedic Saturn dates, not tropical Western ones.
Is this the same as Sade Sati?
No. A Saturn Return is Saturn back at natal Saturn. Sade Sati is Saturn transiting the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from the natal Moon, a stretch of about seven and a half years. They can overlap, but they answer different questions and use different reference points.
Why can one return show three exact dates?
Saturn stations and turns retrograde. If that station falls near your natal Saturn degree, transiting Saturn can cross the degree direct, recross it retrograde, then cross it direct again. All three are exact returns in one cycle. The 3° window around them is the same return, not three separate ones.
Does a Saturn Return mean a crisis?
No. It is a timing marker, not a verdict. How it feels depends on natal Saturn, the houses Saturn rules for your Lagna, and the dasha you are already running. Plenty of first returns coincide with heavier responsibility - career, family, a more adult structure - without being a collapse.
How is this different from Shani Dhaiya or a Saturn dasha?
Shani Dhaiya is Saturn in the 4th or 8th from the Moon for about two and a half years. A Saturn Mahadasha on the Vimshottari Dasha timeline is a natal-period clock, not a transit. The return is only transiting Saturn conjunct natal Saturn. A Jupiter Return is the ~13-month Guru rashi year. A Venus Return is transiting Venus back at natal Venus about once a year. Read them together rather than as substitutes.
When are the first, second and third returns?
Roughly every 29.5 years: first in the late twenties, second in the late fifties, third in the late eighties. Exact dates move with your natal Saturn degree and with Saturn's retrograde pattern that year, which is why this calculator interpolates every crossing instead of adding 29.5 years to the birthday.
