The Arudha Lagna — AL, also written A1 — is a special lagna from Jaimini astrology. It is the Arudha Pada of the 1st house, and it represents your image — how the world perceives you, your reputation, status and material prosperity (maya). While the Lagna shows who you truly are, the Arudha Lagna shows how you appear to everyone else.

How it is calculated

An Arudha Pada is found by counting from a house to its lord, then counting the same number of signs again from the lord. For the Arudha Lagna we start from the 1st house (Lagna). A classical exception applies: if the result falls in the same sign as the house or the 7th from it, the 10th sign from that point is taken instead.

What the Arudha Lagna shows
