What is the Atmakaraka?

The Atmakaraka ("significator of the soul") is the most important planet in Jaimini astrology. Among the seven planets (Sun to Saturn), the one that has advanced the furthest within its sign (the highest degrees) becomes the Atmakaraka. This calculator uses the seven-karaka (Parashari) scheme, so Rahu and Ketu are not counted. It represents the soul's deepest desire and the central lesson of the lifetime.
