What is the Atmakaraka?
The Atmakaraka ("significator of the soul") is the most important planet in Jaimini astrology. Among the seven planets — and Rahu in the eight-karaka scheme — the one that has advanced the furthest within its sign (the highest degrees) becomes the Atmakaraka. It represents the soul's deepest desire and the central lesson of the lifetime.
The Chara Karakas
The remaining planets take the other "movable significator" (Chara Karaka) roles in descending order of degrees:
- Atmakaraka (AK) — the soul and the self
- Amatyakaraka (AmK) — mind, career, and counsel
- Bhratrikaraka (BK) — siblings, courage, gurus
- Matrikaraka (MK) — mother, emotions, property
- Pitrikaraka (PiK) — father and ancestors
- Putrakaraka (PK) — children, intellect, mantra
- Gnatikaraka (GK) — rivals, obstacles, spirituality
- Darakaraka (DK) — spouse and partnerships
Because the Moon and fast-moving planets shift quickly, enter your exact birth time and pick the city from the dropdown so the degrees — and the karaka order — are accurate.
