What is Gana in Vedic astrology?
In Vedic astrology the 27 Nakshatras are divided into three Ganas — Deva (divine), Manushya (human) and Rakshasa (demoniac). Your Gana is decided by the Nakshatra the Moon occupied at your birth, and it describes your basic nature and temperament.
Deva Gana people are gentle, kind and spiritual; Manushya Gana people are balanced, ambitious and worldly; and Rakshasa Gana people are bold, strong-willed and intense. None is "good" or "bad" — each is simply a different temperament.
Gana is also one of the eight Kootas (Gana Koota, 6 points) used in marriage matching, so couples often check whether their Ganas are compatible. Enter your exact birth time and select the city from the dropdown for an accurate result.
