What is Gana Dosha?

Is Rakshasa Gana a defect?
No, and the registry says so plainly: it is a temperament marker, not a flaw. Rakshasa Gana describes a strong-willed, intense and independent nature. Nine of the 27 nakshatras fall in it, so roughly a third of everyone carries it.
How much does it count in matching?
Gana Koota carries 6 of the 36 gunas. Even a complete mismatch loses six points out of thirty-six, which the other seven kootas can readily offset. It should be weighed within the full Ashtakoota rather than checked alone.
What if a match has Gana Dosha?
Look at the total picture. There are classical exemptions to the Deva-Rakshasa rule, and a strong overall guna score with no Nadi or Bhakoot problem is generally taken as sufficient. Mutual understanding matters more than the koota, and the tradition would not disagree.
