What is debilitation?
A planet in its neecha sign, the point opposite its exaltation, where it is considered weakest. Each planet has exactly one: the Sun in Libra, the Moon in Scorpio, Mars in Cancer, Mercury in Pisces, Jupiter in Capricorn, Venus in Virgo and Saturn in Aries.
What is Neecha Bhanga?
Cancellation of the debilitation, and it is the single most important thing to check. It applies when the planet's dispositor, or the planet that would be exalted in that sign, sits in a Kendra from the Lagna or the Moon. Several other conditions also qualify across different texts.
Does this calculator account for it?
Yes - the dosha is flagged only when a debilitation remains un-cancelled. That is the correct way to read it. A reading that reports debilitation without checking for Neecha Bhanga is incomplete and unnecessarily alarming.
Can a cancelled debilitation be a strength?
The classical texts say so, and some go further - a cancelled debilitation is sometimes read as producing a Raja Yoga. The reasoning is that a planet which rises from its lowest point carries a particular kind of force. It is a genuine and well-attested view.
How common is debilitation?
Common. Each planet is debilitated for a twelfth of the zodiac, so most charts have at least one somewhere. What is Neecha Graha Dosha?
Neecha Graha Dosha is read when a planet sits in its debilitation (neecha) sign and that weakness remains un-cancelled. A debilitated planet is at its weakest for its natural significations, but classical astrology is careful: many debilitations are cancelled by Neecha Bhanga - for example when the planet's dispositor, or the planet exalted in that sign, sits in a Kendra from the Lagna or Moon.
Only an uncancelled debilitation is treated as this dosha. When it stands, the planet may need more effort, give delayed results, or show its themes with struggle until strengthened by Dasha, transit or remedies. Cancellation, when present, can turn the same placement into a source of later strength after early difficulty.
