Frequently asked questions about Raja Yoga

What makes a Raja Yoga?

A connection between the lord of a Kendra - the angular houses 1, 4, 7 and 10, the pillars of the chart - and the lord of a Trikona, the trines 1, 5 and 9, the houses of fortune and dharma. Power joined to grace is the classical formula.

How can the two lords connect?

Three ways: conjunction in the same sign, mutual aspect where each casts graha drishti on the other, or a Parivartana sign exchange where each occupies the other's sign. All three count, with the exchange often read as the most durable.

What is a yogakaraka?

A single planet ruling a Kendra among the 4th, 7th or 10th and a Trikona among the 5th or 9th, which makes it a Raja Yoga giver on its own. Saturn is the yogakaraka for Taurus and Libra ascendants, Mars for Cancer and Leo, Venus for Capricorn and Aquarius. House 1 is not enough on its own, so only those six Lagnas have one. The Raja Yoga guide names the planet for each rising sign.

I have several Raja Yogas. Does that mean a great life?

Not by itself, and this is where readings often overpromise. Many charts carry several, and what distinguishes them is the strength of the planets forming them - dignity, freedom from combustion, house placement. Weak or afflicted planets give a mild yoga whatever its name.

When does a Raja Yoga actually deliver?

Rarely from birth. It usually acts during the dasha and antardasha of the planets forming it, and when transits activate the houses involved. This page only lists a yoga when that dasha window opens between ages 12 and 85. A yoga whose planets never receive a dasha in that span stays latent here.

Why is a yoga I expected missing from the list?

This page only lists yogas whose Vimshottari Mahadasha opens between ages 12 and 85. A combination that only fires in early childhood or after age 85 is treated as not delivering in working life, so it is left off the list. Open the yoga's own calculator if you still want the natal combination checked on its own.

What is Raj Yog in a Kundli?

Raja Yoga is the classical combination for power, status, success and rise in life. It forms when the lord of a Kendra (the angular houses 1, 4, 7, 10 - the pillars of the chart) joins forces with the lord of a Trikona (the trines 1, 5, 9 - the houses of fortune and dharma).

How the connection happens

  • Conjunction - both lords sit in the same sign.
  • Mutual aspect - each lord casts a graha drishti on the other.
  • Sign exchange (Parivartana) - each lord sits in the other's sign.

Yogakaraka & Dharma–Karmadhipati

A single planet that rules both a Kendra and a Trikona is a yogakaraka - a Raja Yoga giver on its own (for example Saturn for Taurus/Libra, Mars for Cancer/Leo, Venus for Capricorn/Aquarius). The connection between the 9th lord (dharma) and the 10th lord (karma) is the celebrated Dharma–Karmadhipati Yoga, considered the strongest Raja Yoga of all.

What you get

This calculator lists every Raja Yoga in your chart with the planets and houses involved, the way they connect, a strength grade (from dignity, combustion and placement), the life areas it blesses, the yogakaraka, and the full house-lord table - plus a downloadable PDF.

When does a Raja Yoga fructify?

A Raja Yoga rarely acts from birth. It usually delivers during the Dasha and Antardasha of the planets that form it, and when transits touch those houses. Strong, undamaged lords give a clearer rise; weak, combust or afflicted ones give a milder result that asks for more effort. A yoga whose only dasha window opens before age 12 or after age 85 is not listed here.

This page lists every kendra–trikona link in the chart, with a strength grade. Named cousins isolate one recipe: Dharma–Karmadhipati is the 9th–10th pair, Kendra–Trikona Raja Yoga teaches the general rule, Vipreet Raja Yoga is the reverse geometry from dusthanas, and Jaimini has its own raja yogas from the Karakamsha and Arudha. Presence of several mild links is common; a strong, well-timed one is less so. The Raja Yoga guide names the yoga karaka for each Lagna. The yoga-meaning guide explains why a combination is not a guarantee. A chart describes tendencies. It does not replace work, character or professional advice.

The calculator tells me I have two Raj Yogas in my chart, but I am forty and still doing an ordinary desk job with no authority to speak of. Does a Raj Yoga simply not fire for some people, or is it waiting on a dasha? I would rather know than keep expecting something that is not coming.

A Raja Yoga in Vedic astrology is not an automatic switch that turns on in youth; it is a structural promise that requires the right Dasha timing and maturity of the participating planets to deliver visible authority. In your chart, the yogas are genuine—specifically the mutual aspect between your 10th lord Mercury in the 11th house and Jupiter, alongside a powerful 9th house pairing of Venus in its own sign with an exalted Moon. However, your earlier productive years were shaped by the difficult 8th-house placement of Rahu, while the conjunction of Saturn and Ketu in your 2nd house naturally built early career delays, steady grind, and a feeling of being undervalued in routine roles.

The turning point lies in the dasha cycle you have entered. You are currently navigating your Jupiter Mahadasha / Venus Antardasha (active through December 2027), which directly engages your 9th house of fortune (Bhagya) and the Kendra-Trikona dynamic. This is followed by the sub-periods of the 10th-house Sun and the exalted Moon through 2030. Because your 10th house contains a combust Mars alongside the Sun in Gemini, your rise in authority is not meant to be a loud, political dominance; rather, it manifests as senior advisory capability, intellectual leadership, and domain expertise where your counsel carries weight.

To help align this latent potential and clear the lingering inertia of the Saturn-Ketu axis:

Surya Arghya:

Offer plain water in a copper vessel to the morning Sun daily while reciting the Gayatri Mantra, strengthening executive confidence and workplace visibility.

Quiet Discipline:

Direct your efforts toward specialized skills and mentorship roles within your domain rather than waiting for structural promotions to be handed down passively.

Your yogas are not unfulfilled promises—they are late-blooming by planetary design, and the current multi-year window (2025–2029) is the precise period intended to shift your trajectory from execution to authority.
