Why does Nadi carry eight of the 36 gunas?
Because the tradition linked it to constitution and to the health of children, and weighted it accordingly. It is the single largest block in Ashtakoot, so a Nadi mismatch alone can pull an otherwise strong match below the conventional line - which is precisely why it should never be read before the cancellation rules have been checked.
What are the Parihara rules?
Classical cancellations that nullify the dosha. The main ones are the same Nakshatra with different padas, the same Rashi with different Nakshatras, the same Nakshatra falling in different Rashis, and friendly lords of the two Moon signs. Which Nadi is mine, and how is it decided?
By your Janma Nakshatra. The 27 stars are divided into three groups of nine - Aadi or Vata, Madhya or Pitta, and Antya or Kapha - following the Ayurvedic humours. Your birth star places you in one group, so an accurate birth time matters wherever the Moon sits near a Nakshatra boundary.
Is Madhya Nadi dosha worse than the others?
It is traditionally described as the most serious of the three, and some texts single it out. That said, it is subject to exactly the same Parihara rules, and the same caution applies: a single koota should not decide a marriage. Have the full charts read rather than acting on this one line.
Should Nadi dosha stop a marriage?
On its own, no. It is one of eight kootas, it is frequently cancelled, and it says nothing about the 7th house, Venus, Mars or the dashas either partner is running - all of which matter more to how a marriage goes. What is Nadi Dosha?
Nadi is the eighth and most heavily weighted koota in Vedic Ashtakoot Guna Milan for marriage, carrying 8 of the 36 gunas. Each person's Nadi - Aadi (Vata), Madhya (Pitta) or Antya (Kapha) - is decided by the Janma Nakshatra of the Moon, with the 27 nakshatras split into three groups of nine. Nadi Dosha is said to arise when both partners fall in the same Nadi. The Nadi koota then scores 0 out of 8. Of the three, Madhya Nadi dosha is traditionally treated as the most serious.
The classical concern is health and progeny, because Nadi is linked to the three humors. That is a matching rule, not a medical test. Same Nadi does not mean a couple cannot have children, and it does not diagnose illness. Fertility and health belong to a doctor. Many families still proceed when cancellation (Parihara) applies, or when the rest of the charts and the people themselves are willing.
