What is an Ashtamsha chart?
The eighth divisional chart (D8, Ashtamsha). Each rasi is split into eight parts of 3 degrees 45 minutes. Movable signs count those amsas from Mesha, fixed from Dhanu, dual from Simha. The twelve houses are read from the Ashtamsha of the rising sign as house 1. Classical practice uses it for longevity, sudden change and hidden crises. It is not a lifespan clock.
Does a weak D8 mean a short life, or tell me when I will die?
No. A planet that looks strong in the birth chart but falls to a weak Ashtamsha tends to deliver less in crisis and endurance than it appears to; the reverse also holds. How is this different from Kundli Maker or Navamsha?
Same D8 mathematics and the same D8 lagna as house 1. Kundli Maker is the full natal file - D1, every varga, dasha and strength tables. This page is only the Ashtamsha (the D8 - Ashtamsha dropdown there). Marriage - Navamsha (D9) is dharma and marriage. Children - Saptamsha (D7) is children. How is this different from Mrityu Bhaga, Maraka Dosha or Trimsamsa?
Mrityu Bhaga tests whether a graha sits in a classical degree of death. Maraka Dosha names death-inflicting lords from the 2nd and 7th. Life Problems - Trimsamsa (D30) is the 30-fold affliction chart. Accident Possibility is a natal snapshot of sudden harm. Is the 8th from D8 lagna a death house?
It is the classical house of longevity, hidden crises and sudden turns in this chart, not a death sentence and not a date. Read it with the natal 8th lord placed in D8, with Saturn as ayush karaka and Mars as the karaka of acute events.
